To give Media Player some love, Microsoft should partner up with a major player like Google or Amazon and create a Windows Music Store accessible only from the Media Player app. Even with the release of a new-and-improved version in 2022, there has not been a major update since the end of that year. However, with the popularity of iTunes on Apple’s platform and eventually Windows itself thanks to Apple’s mega-successful iPod, Media Player slowly disappeared into the background. Windows Media Player was first launched in 1991 as a simple way to play audio files and later videos either from a file on your computer or by streaming one from the internet. With rumors of a successor to Windows 11, tentatively called Windows 12, and the revival of Windows Media Player in 2022, Microsoft has a chance to make Media Player a true rival to Apple Music. While Apple is expected to announce updates to its iOS, macOS, and iPadOS software, Microsoft has already made headlines with the announcement of Windows 11’s AI ‘Co-Pilot’ feature.

However, I believe that Microsoft should take the opportunity to challenge Apple Music later this year. As we approach WWDC 2023, rumors are circulating that Apple is set to unveil its own VR headset.
